Coming from a musical family, I took an interest in piano at the age of 5. I have enormous gratitude for my Dad, and my piano teacher Elizabeth Chandler, for giving me the gift of music. They encouraged me to practise and prepare for sitting my grades, and compete and perform in local music festivals. This was an important part of my childhood and gave me many transferable skills which I did not realise I was learning at the time.
I now teach piano to primary school children and this gives me great pleasure knowing that the lessons which I teach are really helping to shape their future in so many ways. Learning to play a musical instrument is enjoyable, but aside from that it can help to improve the memory, improve a child’s problem-solving skills and sharpen their focus and attention, it is also very creative.
